Baking Tips

Ensure your butter is melted and cooled to the right temperature for that perfect cookie texture. This part’s so satisfying!

Decoration Fun

Drawing the spider legs with melted chocolate is a great way to involve kids or make it a fun activity with friends!

Ingredients

  • Dry Ingredients:
  • Wet Ingredients:
  • Chocolate Chips:

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:
  • Step 1
    - Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Make Cooking Dough:
  • Step 2
    - Mix Ingredients: In a medium bowl mix together flour, salt, and baking soda. In a separate large mixing bowl beat the butter and sugars together with an electric mixer until well blended. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla. Stir in the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Gently stir in ¾ cup chocolate chips. The dough will be soft.
  • Bake:
  • Step 3
    - Scoop and Bake: Scoop dough into balls and place on a parchment lined cookie sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
  • Add chocolate chips on top:
  • Step 4
    - Top with Chocolate Chips: Remove from oven and place 3-4 chocolate chips into the tops of each cookie, point side up.
  • Melt Chocolate:
  • Step 5
    - Melt Remaining Chocolate: Add remaining chocolate chips to a microwave safe bowl and microwave, on low power, stirring every 30 seconds, until melted.
  • Draw Spider legs:
  • Step 6
    - Decorate with Chocolate: Spoon the melted chocolate into a ziplock bag. Use scissors to cut the smallest slit from one of the corners (you want the hole to be very small to make your spider legs). Squeeze the melted chocolate through the small hole, next to the chocolate chips on top of the cookie, to make 8 spider legs.

Cooking techniques

Mixing ingredients properly is key to achieving the right texture. Be gentle when folding in the chocolate chips to maintain that soft, chewy center!

Variations or substitutions

Try using different types of chocolate chips or adding nuts for extra crunch! You can even make these gluten-free by substituting the flour with a gluten-free blend.

Storage tips

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or freeze for longer storage.
